The Shady Towel Story

I’ve been an athlete and golfer for most of my life, but a few years ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. One of the biggest challenges MS gave me was heat intolerance. It stole the joy and freedom of being able to play a full round of golf, which was something I love to do with friends and my family.

During the summer, I would play three or four holes and feel my body shutting down. My energy would evaporate. My vision would blur. I would get faint and dizzy and my husband would have to tee up my ball because I couldn’t bend over. I watched from the clubhouse as my friends and family finished the round while I had to quit early.

I started bringing wet towels, fans, ice packs, cooling rags, just about anything I could find. But nothing worked well enough. And then one day, sitting in the golf cart, I took my towel and wedged it in the rooftop handle so it would create a little shade to get the direct sunlight off of me. It felt wonderful to have the relief and I needed to figure out a way to make this a permanent solution. I searched the internet thinking there must be something out there but there wasn’t. That is when that simple necessity turned into an idea and became a prototype. Then a pattern. Then dozens of iterations. And eventually, the Shady Towel was born—a lightweight, easy-to-attach towel that gave me on demand relief by blocking the direct sun. It was wonderful to have my towel in the cart where I could wipe my face, hands and find that cooling relief.

With the Shady Towel, I was finally able to finish a full round of golf again
and I went on to win my club championship.

I can’t cure MS or lupus or skin cancer, but I can help people stay on the course longer, safely, and comfortably spending time doing what they love and with those that mean the most to them.

That’s why I created this product—and why I’m bringing it to golfers everywhere.
